Default Faora - Man of steel fan art

Hi guys,

I thought I'd create a thread to show you guys what I'm up to these days. I'm aiming at modelling/texturing and rendering this concept of Faora in earth/krypton armour by the talented Keith Christensen (see below). One would think I'd be sick of this project after working hard on it for a year, but couldn;t resist doing this version of her suit which is slightly different from the one in the movie.
So far, I've been focussing on the chest part, started in zbrush to see how the hard surface tools were, I'm still unsure I like it but the curves insert brush, clip tools and shadow box can really speed things up sometimes.

So here we go, the concept from Keith C:

Cool stuff,

im wondering about those details on the chest, are you gona hand sculpting them or are you gona create some alphas for it for more precision, what do you think it will be your process?

great job.

Hey cheers Hugo, I'll most likely do that with alphas. Might split the elements into separate alphas and overlay them. The test in zbrush was done using alphas but some of those details inspired by Louis Sullivan and art nouveau in general, could look nice with some more relief and undercuts, so alphas might be a starting point, then sculpt over. On the artwork, the details on the thighs are kind of going across the plates for instance so I'll have to accommodate these and do some pattern changes manually I think.

These are some of the references we've used on the krypton details, love the organic feel of these:

cheers

Lovely ornaments.(saved for reference)

Yeah i thought you would use alphas and then sculpt on top of them.

I look forward to see the end result, im curious to see to what level you take it. When i watched the movie i got to say those suits looked so diferent from anything i have ever seen it will be curious to see how this one will turn out.

Stay cool

Looking sweet. Very presentable stills, nice material and fine detailing.

The collar is pretty intricate at this stage already. How did you do the little pattern, insert mesh brush? And the tubing? Would love to see wires, even at this stage!
