Tried to go back to the basics, hence this is mostly b/w, silhouette and rendering exercise type of stuff. Other than that, just more mindless things.

It's been a long time since I did a full body male figure, and my anatomy is a bit rusty. I'd really appreciate it if someone could give some critiques on it >_>. I think I can see a few things that are probably off, but not 100% sure.

Well. So much for the timely documentation of the entire process..

It took about 7 weeks from start to finish, on and off, of which about 4 were the most intense and saw most of this done.

(Had I known what I was doing, it could have probably been very comfortably achieved in under 4 with much better results.. But oh well - now I know what I don't know:] )

(Just in case it is interesting to someone).

I was rendering with mental ray, both gi and fg enabled; two area lights, of which one was photon casting; using arch shaders for most things. //Half of this was a first for me, so there is still a lot to learn. :]

Coincidentally, that's also my first thorough 32-bit paintover as well. I started messing with that in the previous illustration, so here I took it further. You can push the values quite far, at least as far as color corrective things are concerned and granted your renders are hdr..

The front was an old zbrush sculpt paintover with some tweaks + the added face, which is a photograph of a model that I took myself too. The rear is based on a newer zbrush sculpt that I did to figure out how it'll work in 3d.

These are from a quick job I did for the Dead Island 2 cinematic in 2012. Not entirely sure if they used the models or not, but I do remember being fairly proud of them at the time..sigh. (The sculpted hair on the male is a recent addition so as to not have him bald.)
