Hey guys! I wanted to share a piece I've been working on for a while now.. It's an attempt at a realistic portrait.. It's modeled in Maya and sculpted and painted in Mudbox.. rendered in Vray with a dome light. Hair, fuzz was done in Shave and rendered separately with Mental Ray.. which was a huge learning curve.. (converted eyelashes and eyebrows to geo). and comped/layer adjustments together in PS. Love the site and all the fantastic work and info!
Thanks!

Reason: updated image so has less contrast in skin
The hair's not too bad w/ the exception of the odd-ball strands shooting out at the top (although I'm guessing that's part of the intention: to not have the hair TOO perfect). Eyebrows: It looks like the face mesh is protruding out from the eyebrows (camera right). The bump/normal maps on the face look a bit too intense. Also, it looks like she's sunburnt - particularly in the cheeks.
Liking the lips, eyes, and the skin shader. Also is there fuzz on the sweater? If so, nice job!
IMHO, it may have been more interesting if you had done something a bit more dynamic w/ the pose and/or w/ her gaze.
Thanks for the feedback Mister, the eye brow is actually a scar (its based off my wife actually).. ill post some higher res images soon. Yah added some fuzz for the shirt..
thanks again.
Great job man!
Hair look a little strange at the end, skin bump a tiny bit too high to my taste, and i would've checked neck/clavicle anatomy, and reflection in her left eye where hair covers the light. I really like the face sculpt, and overall feel is great. Thanks for showing.
beautifull, if i have one crit it goes to the bottom of the hair that seems a little bit too compact, and the eyebrows looks to have less quality than the hair.
But that's Really an Awesome job! (my fave is the blue one.)
Great work Dan , I really think the renders and overall mode of this is very nice. I have to agree with everyone on the hair, the modeling of it is pretty good. I just think the hair shader you have on there is not up to par with the rest of it so it makes the hair stand out that much more. I actually like the bump strength on the skin, it gives a more natural look to me. The eye's I think look to plastic, maybe the reflection shine is odd or the eyes subsurface needs to be stronger and some caustics. Overall great work and look forward to seeing more!
