Default Modelling Reel 2011 - Jake Harrell

Hey guys,

I've just finished off my modelling reel, made up of a bunch of personal work I've done recently. Please check it out

I only recently discovered this site and am blow away by quality of work shown on these boards, so feels good to finally have my work ready to show.

I'm calling this done for the moment, wanted to add more content but am feeling the pressures of post redundancy life(booo). I'm going back to texture it now though, so any critiques are really appreciated as I'll be tweaking and updating anything then.

I won't spam the thread too much, so if you have time please check out my site for more stills/wires: http://www.jakeharrell.co.uk.

Nice works! I don't know if that's just a shadow thing but some of the b29 front windscreen pieces seem to bulge out a bit, is it supposed to be the case?
Did you add the rivets as a displacement map?
Cool reel!

Cheers

Cheers Pascal.

Do you mean the windows on the nose? From some of the ref I was following the middle window did seemed to dome a little.. but looking at it now, I think mine is a little overkill actually, nice spot .

The rivets were modelled and just placed along some of the edges(I removed them from the wire shots as they cluttered it up a little!), but I think they're far to uniform at the moment.

I was thinking of adding a displacement pass for dents over most of the metal work, so I'll "rough up" the rivet placement then and maybe add the fine denting they make too.. not too sure how to tackle that yet though.

Very nice work Jake. How did you place all those rivets!? Some kind of edge to spline deal?

I always wonder how people achieve such lovely skin on reptiles, like that of your Alligator. Is that all done by hand or in combination with stamped details?

Exactly that .

For the scales on the alligator, I tried alphas for a bit.. but found that it just didn't look right as was real hard to get the flow of the scales right. So I ended up doing most of it by hand, painting a template with polypaint first.

For some of the bigger more.. sticky outy.. scales, like the ones of the back etc, I made a few quick brushes. Nothing special but I'll attach them here in case anyone finds them useful.
