Default Skin shading (in general with any source material)

Hi all,

Lee encouraged me to start a new thread here for skin shading in general regardless of the source material you choosed.

So, here is my new approach with a new VrayforC4D-Skin-shader-setup.

I used the model and 8k-textures from the Ten24 Modo-Skin-Tutorial set.

And a close up with Vray-Fur as peach-fuzz:

And finally, a turntable-video:

An early test of the shader with a scan of my own head (made with one EOS 20D and Photoscan, some postwork in ZBrush and 3DCoat) and a very rough texturing, just to see how the shader works.

Here is the shader-setup with material (model and textures) from a Digital tutor lesson from Adam Lewis: http://www.digitaltutors.com/tutoria...-Max-and-V-Ray )
I had to tune the maps a bit for VrayforC4D.

Here is a breakdown:

Only SSS, no specs:

Specs only:

SSS with specs but no diffuse:

And finally, I added here a pinch of diffuse to the SSS to make it look less waxy.

Further refinement:

After a further overwork of the model in ZBrush with retopo, I tweaked the setup again, used only a 8k Displacement, no bump or Normal maps at all and throwed in a first rough scatter map to get rid of unwanted reddish zones where they don't belong to.

The Color-map is still WIP, needs some corrections etc.

Here are some new results rendered with Arnold inside Lightwave.
The plugin "Lightwave to Arnold" (LWtoA) is a personal project by Juanjo Gonzales (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Arnol...07339726119625)
and not officially supported by SolidAngle, but it works pretty good so far.
Thanks also to SolidAngle for the permission to post my render-results.

Yes, Juanjo's plugin works excellent, he is also working on an update with integration of all the current new Arnold-features.

I have to ask. How the heck are you getting that nice red diffusion in the wrinkles from SSS? I can't get anything close to that clear, but I see it in WIPS all over this site.

it depends on the scale and scatter radius settings - play with those 2 settings [if I understood your question correctly..]
