DUDE out of freaking no where!! I thought maybe Pascal might had forgotten to top row one of the models and I come to find out you've brought it to a full completion. Some really stunning work! Amazing!

I'm looking at it even closer now and checked out the tutorial. But I'm still not entirely sure how you went about doing all the dirt and scratches? I cube map to me (Maya) is just a texture that's projected around all sides. Is it different in XSI/3dsMax? Also how long do you think it took you to do all this? Working a little every night?

2 PascalR thank u glad that you like it

2 aamirart thnx!

2 Kel Solaar big thanx!

2 tonytrout thanx but it's not an ammo boxes it's a reactive armor!!

2 malo thank u

2 Mrguy I'am not sure that you have a box mapping in maya i've tried to find it but it seems that there are only planar spherical cylindrical and automatic i think you may try cylindrical but the textures may distort at some parts the main idea of this is to have a quick UV's and not make all this mapping work at all and this box mapping in 3ds max are ideal for this it will tile any texture and project it straight flat so the thing is that you use an AO algorithm as a mask to brake-up the uniform tiling of the box-mapping and add some extra details(see attached)

so basicly if you tweak an AO settings to get very thin AO just near the edges and add some noise there it may look like scraches
this shader network is a bit overcomplicated but the main idea that i've used that AO technique to get some scraches on the edges(this will be procedural based on your geometry no UV's needed) and added there some scrach bitmaps to get some noise on the plain surfaces(this will require box map) hope this make sense

The colored rendering is just looking great. What I really like about your design is that it looks quite futuristic, more Sci-Fi than the other Hawken mechs which usually look technically grounded with contemporary bits and pieces. I find your design more appealing. It's a bit in the direction of designs like the Elysium movie.
Great work!
