Wow 7 years of school!! I don't know how you could do it! I do not really like taking general courses and am already in debt from school. Major props. Thanks yeah it's pretty crazy! I didn't even know what cg stuff was before i came to this school. I am truly a newbie. I got accepted on my fine art portfolio. Pretty lucky i got in. I moved to Vancouver for school from a small cow town in alberta. surprisingly there are tons of studios here. I honestly have no idea where i want to work though. I know the game industry right now is having quite the blow as propaganda went down but the film studios are doing great. image engine did district 9 and they're hiring soon i hear. but i mostly just want to work here for a year get my feet under me and then travel everywhere. It sucks it's so hard to get into the states there are some wicked dream studios there for sure. Haha i'm actually going to Valve on monday with a few other classmates for a tour can't wait.

    Hey Man

Sorry for such a late reply, been crazy busy lately and only just got back to looking at CG Feddback today.

Yeah you seem to have been experiencing what I was describing. You probably find you have much more control over the flow and the final resulting UVs. I am not sure if anyone can say its the correct work-flow but its the one i find gets the best results.

    Cheers

    Hey Craig
Its a very good question you have asked. What the article might not have covered is what there software Pixars Renderman does at render time, this software take in poly models and converts all the geo to a subd surface at render time. The main reason for this is that subd surfaces are a bit of a pain to model with and can be as technically confusing as nurbs sometimes, but look awesome when rendered, so most studios who use render man model in polies knowing that there models will be converted into a subd surface at render time. I would not be so worried about learning to model with actual subds, if anything you want to focus on what happens to a poly when its converted to a subd. If you can understand how to lay out your geo so you get the best result when converted to a subd you will have no problems. Heres another thread about where we talked about similar stuff.

    Hope this helps
