I've been bitten hard by the Sculptris bug, so I thought it would be fun to make a sketchbook to post some of my work from the program. Hope you guys like it. I might do some simple Vray renders as well so it's just not a bunch of boring viewport shots. All sculpts are done entirely in Sculptris from a simple cube basemesh.

Brilliant sculpts Adamclapclap
Would you consider recording a sculpting session at some point? That would be fantastic to see your workflow from a cube.

Awesome stuff, looking forward to more:thumbsup:

very nice sculpts
sculptris makes perfect sense for sketching,
I am not too confortable with its brushes myself but your work conforts me in the idea the problem is not the software :)

Great sculpts adam, now that I see the guy I find the girl a bit much "viril" in some areas. Keep them coming :)

Amazing work man, really really great shapes :notWorthy:
One comment though, are they supposed to look a lot like each other (seams like the could be brother and sister)?
Anyway awesome work!

Thanks for the comments everyone, I really appreciate it. I'm sort of terrible updating my threads so I apologize for the late reply.

As a token of my thanks I thought you guys might enjoy this material pack I made for Sculptris. Preview here (http://adamvfx.com/SculptrisMaterialPack/Preview.jpg), download here (http://adamvfx.com/SculptrisMaterialPack/Adam_Sculptris_Material_Pack.zip). To install just unzip the files into your materials folder in the Sculptris directory.

PascalR: I might do that for my next update - I need to get some proper screen capture software. My workflow is a lot like normal subdivision sculpting though. Start at very low detail, block out the basic shapes and slowly add more detail as I refine the forms.

andreicirdu: Around 6 or so hours each. Not very fast, but you save a fair amount of time not needing a base mesh.

Kel Solaar: I'm looking at her with fresh eyes now and I totally agree, ugh - her mouth and chin are so manly! Oh well.

Storm: I was basing them off some sculptures by Sabin Howard, so they share a very similar aesthetic.

Here's another thing I sculpted (partially) in Sculptris. Started as a doodle of an unsymmetrical/deformed face, and I decided to bring it to completion. Retopologized the mesh once I had all of the main forms laid out in Sculptris, then I brought it into Mudbox for tweaking/refining and texturing. Rendered in Vray. It was kind of a pain to work without symmetry, but it gives a bit more natural result I think.

Any wireframes? What did you use to retopo?

Nice!!!

may sound like a silly question but did you use photos to texture or is that hand painted?

Absolutely gorgeous. The face (especially the asymmetry) is wonderful & the texturing/render is the icing on the cake.

Really inspiring.

those are really cool, love how far you can push them in that soft... but I'm seriously bothered by the distance between the eyes and the temples on that rendered head - it's so tiny [I know I'm a pain in the patella - just had to spit it out]

sir..you are always an inspiration! I only use your old z1 z2 z3 ando so on materials. I'm a OSX user so i can't play with sculptris..so..i've converted all your pngs to jpgs and created 36 materials in zb using z3 as base. :) please if you can record a video of you sculpting would be really nice. also if you want i can send you all 36 materials for zb. tnx!

Thank you again for the comments everyone. Your words mean a lot to me, truly.

Pascal: Thanks Pascal, and thanks for the plug! I use Topogun and 3D Coat for the retopology. 3D Coat's autoretopo feature is great for getting a quick base, then I delete the geometry I don't like and finish it in Topogun, which has a bit nicer control and the ability to reproject the details on the new topology is invaluable. Here's the wireframe (http://adamvfx.com/Oldie/Topology.jpg).

Andrew: The textures are completely hand painted in Mudbox with a few alphas to break up the brush stroke. No photos.

Mike: Though I don't mind sharing, I am using pretty much the same setup as the one I shared for Lee's head scan. Just little tweaks here and there.

Magdalena: The face is pretty odd-looking indeed. I was just trying to explore some unusual shapes and hopefully break out from my normal aesthetic habits a little.

Mohammad: Just using one area light and an HDRI environment. I found some really cool free HDRI images that simulate the lighting of a photography studio. You can get them at the author's deviantart page (http://zbyg.deviantart.com/gallery/6278123).

Sergio: Glad to hear you find the materials useful. Feel free to modify or share them however you like. I don't use Zbrush too often anymore, so I'm not that concerned with new materials, but I'm sure others will find them useful.

Here's a little alien concept sculpt I did. I think I will take this to completion with a render sometime. As usual, sculpted from a sphere in Sculptris. Also, on the topic of Sculptris, I thought some of you might find this script useful that I made for it. When I sculpt I like to change the size and intensity of my brush a lot, but the default hotkeys in Sculptris make that very uncomfortable, and unfortunately you can't yet change them within the program. I made a simple script with AutoHotkey (http://www.autohotkey.com/) that optimizes the ergonomics a little, rebinding brush size decrease/increase to Z and X, and brush strength decrease/increase to A and S . You can download the script here (http://adamvfx.com/Sculptris/SculptrisRebind.zip); full notes and instructions for its use are contained within the script itself. I hope some of you find it helpful.

Tnx Adam! I will share the material on this board and on ZB central for shure! What are you using now to sculpt? Sculptris and mudbox? I'm really disappointed that a OSX full working version of Sculptris is not out yet...maybe i've to install windows 7 with bootcamp but i don't really like that os. I'm more save with osx or linux.. ;) great alien sculpt too! we all are waiting for a head sculptin session video...tnx again.

I and congratulation for your work on the software.
Just on question did you probably make sculptris work on android smartphone or some apple touch.
Both have a lot of application for drawing but nothing to sculpt in a free time.

For example I'v got a galaxy S of samsung with a 1Ghz processor and 512 mo, it's possible to work with this configuration ?

Best regard

Wow, great work! Makes me curious about sculptris.
My jaw dropped when I saw the vray rendered head.

Mike: Though I don't mind sharing, I am using pretty much the same setup as the one I shared for Lee's head scan. Just little tweaks here and there

Please do share Adam, the render looks a lot better than the one with Lee's head to me. If you could share the scene like you have done for the "Infinite Face Capture" thread, that would be awesome. Much more than awesome.
That would make me jump from softimage/mental ray to 3ds max/vray ;)

Keep up the good work Adam!

Hey,

I just registered but saw you work last month, thought you should get my first post!

I really love your renders in Vray, I hope to emulate them soon.
