Great stuff Collings! thanks
Here are some references that Bradford found, I am posting them here:
http://www.kino-teatr.ru/day/y1936/
It's a great resource for headshots of actors. Lots of gems in there to
sketch from. If you click on the first thumbnail some of them take you
to more shots of the actors, and then if you click again, you can
sometimes get larger images.
just some examples:

Went researching about hyper-realistic sculpting techniques (fiberglass and silicone based).Found a low 'how-to' from the famous Ron Mueck. Simple, just technical approach to the process, but nice to see (part 2 of 3): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTy5cORM3CI

oups ^^ i missed that one.
I was thinking while posting my last link, it would be cool to keep them updated in the first post and listed by category like "insects/animals" , "human anatomy", "sculptor" , "photo browser" , etc ..
I can do that if you're ok with it. So far it's not really necessary since we have only 3 pages but anyways it will be easier at the end to find out any desire link later on.

Great site, collings!
Along the same lines, if you're looking for high-res OLD photographs, you need Shorpy.com (http://www.shorpy.com).
Particularly impressive are the 4x5 Kodachromes (http://www.shorpy.com/4x5-large-format-kodachromes) from the 40s. This image (http://www.shorpy.com/files/images/1a35227u.jpg), for example, was taken in 1942. Looks incredible! But they also have a ton of photos from the late 1800s and early 1900s that are very high res.
There's a lot of history on this site, and the detail in their photos is pretty phenomenal.

just got this sent to me from a job I recently had to finish, some awesome reference for the underneath of a bird!
One thing anatomically I found particularly interesting was how substantial the flap of skin from the shoulder to the wrist was. Looks quite nearly like a bat! Also, if you notice how it holds it's arm, it's much simpler than one would think...you'll know what I mean if you ever tried to rig a wing.

Hey Tim, that's not a boat. It's a Soviet WIG. A Long range attack craft that's a cross between a bomber, hydrofoil, and nuclear attack sub. Made to fly below radar at aircraft speeds designed to destroy our eastern sea board with short range nuclear missile bombardment. The thing was completely stealth, high speed and would have made a mess of us if it were actually deployed on America. Scary. Apparently it worked really well.
All I gotta say for you Weta guys is that since the Dragon was conveniently blown up in the first Avatar movie and the second one is about the coeans this would be a good replacement yes? ;)
