Hi my name is Tony, I work in a non cg business but I enjoy sculpting. Im really too stuck to change jobs now

This head is a recent work I did in an evening from the basic mudbox head, but I think I will do some more work on it, add some earing and hair and such, and try rendering it. The moko is my own design as it is sacred to the individual and I didnt want to step on anybodies toes copying one from a reference. Inspired i guess by some of the works by Charles Goldie a NZ painter who did a lot of paintings of this type of subject

Just bought Maya so rendering is a whole new world for me.... Look forward to being a part of this community I hope some of my humble attempts is OK to post.146

Good start Tony and :welcome:

You're more than welcome to post your works here.
I think the proportions look ok, but I would revisit the cheeks and skin folds, those wrinkles are very deep and are fighting against the muscles underneath (should be more vertical than horizontal).
I think in general your wrinkles are too voluminous, they could be tighter and not affect the silhouette so much.

Like in this Goldie's painting:

Good start though, keep it up! :)

looks better but still feels too busy imho. I would really lower the wrinkles displacement height. Also using photo reference and stick to them exactly, does help a lot when starting to model human anatomy.

Cheers

nice update on the texture, maybe watch for some stretchings in the ears and lower lip area. Also the skin tones look a bit contrasty on the forehead and ears area imho.
Cool stuff ! Keep it up!

Happy new year:thumbsup:

Taking a break from some other projects to try and finish this. Im reasonably happy with the modelling now and will move it into Maya with some proper eyes, proper hair and sss. The tattoo colours are on a separate layer and I hope I can stick it into the 2nd sss layer and get a good and more natural subsurface depth effect

Nice! The model looks pretty good to me, the only thing that still bothers me is the lower lip. It looks like there is a flat area right under the mouth line. I would add some break up on the lower lip so it feels more fleshy.

Very nice work though, keep it up
