Hey all,

Thought I'd show some new work, they are some examples of polyresin prints.

Sorry for all the images :P

Enjoy!

Wow Mike! Those are awesome! How do you like the material they are using? A friend of mine went through a bunch of print guys a while back and didn't have any luck with his. He even had stuff sent to him that melted if it got wet.

Any info on this stuff would be great to have.

I was wondering, do you have some more images or renders of that snake/dragon thing? I really love the design, and would love to see some more views :)

waow that's a loads of 3d prints you have here :)
especially like the Batman and the last dude with the rock . Awesome Man.
Did you have a choice for the color output or everything is printed in yellow ?

I'm sure this is going to make me look stupid, but are these renders?

I only ask because the fidelity & detail is beyond anything I've ever seen from a print. That & the flying demon's centre of gravity looks way off AND all these would cost the f**ing Earth to get made!

Either way - they look fantastic. :)

Congratz !

Haha Cheers guys.

They are "example" renders :D
I wanted the viewer to think they are actual real images, then that way they would have so much more appeal then your traditional shaded views.

Also wanted a nice way to show how Printed/3D models would look in real-life without having to pay expensive printing costs.

Wait a minute now - these are renders? If so, I am extremely impressed. I was pretty much convinced they were prints. The dust and stains on the backdrop, the lighting, and all the various subtle imperfections are very convincing. Well done, Mike.

hahaha you got me clap Beautiful renders!! What renderer is that?

Man I swore these were real:notWorthy:

Thanks guys :)

Adam Lewis - I went into a lot of effort to create those small details you mentioned, also it can be tricky to setup up a nice procedural shader that would work with any model and size.

Pascal R - It's Mental Ray - 3Dsmax

Thanks all again.

Just been playing with V-Ray, trying to get the same results as mental ray. They feel a bit more waxy with v-ray, prob need to vrayblend it.

These are absolutely amazing. Could you tell us what indirect illumination method you used to render them out? Irradiance particles seem to take forever with SSS, and your renders are super crisp and detailed. I'd love to know.

Gonna grab this for sure.

I wanted to ask though, do you have a preference between MR or VR when rendering?

argoabba
06-12-2011, 12:13 AM
I bought this MR-pack from Mike Nash site. cool stuff! Also not big deal getting it to Maya as SSS Shader is present similiar in Maya, scene can be exported via OBJ or other formats. Lights setup as well... but of course will need some time to port. Most importaint I think - get Mike's experience from material layers setup and lighting i think.

MikeANash
07-12-2011, 08:07 PM
Thanks again guys!

gonkdroid - I would say for the pack I prefer Mr over Vr since It's so damn hard to wrangle a good shader setting from VR using sss.

I think overall VR is just better since it's being updated vs Mr being left behind. If you compare the two they both have their +/- tho.

argoabba - I wont be porting it over, I'd rather move onto other things.

This times two! Would love to have this pack for maya!

Times 3! I feel like I can achieve these type of renders on my own but I do seem to be missing a step of two... seeing the scene layed out in Maya would help. Also VR and MR for Maya would be amazing.
