Really looking forward to R4. I think the animation tools are a nice addition

Looks kinda useless to me, I cant imagine wanting to animate and render my models in zbrush haha. I can see how some people would find it useful.
I think this will be great for posing characters now, since the rig will always be there to tweak poses :)
Lets hope they added some better texturing tools in r4, also be bug free at the release date :)

Hehe, yeah I think itīs nice for simple deformation tests. Looks like he just uses a zsphere rig, you can already do that in the current version, but I wish that there will be a weight painting/posing tool like in the new mudbox.
Agree about the texturing tools, it would be nice to paint on the maps instead of just polypainting. And we need layers for painting!

Nice watch ;) No explanation of the tools used though and I read the whole thread. I would be interested to know how much was modelled in the application, not so much the animation stuff. I expect it wont be a free release again

BTW i think its pretty cool that there is some obvious texture layering going on.

I have no idea. Im guessing every major release attracts a wealth of new users. Or maybe they provide consulting for vfx houses?
Maybe Zbrush wouldn't have the userbase it has if you had to pay for each upgrade? Dunno.
I get the feeling though that the free upgrades has to come to an end. I know people who bought it in the 1.55b days.
But the thing is, even if z4 wasnt free, there is so much in zbrush that i dont mind staying at the current version.
Im hoping though that Ptex is in v4 and some more texturing tools along with layered painting (with (native) bump, spec etc support.

I can't wait for zbrush 4 :D
But yeah I got a feeling this is gonna be the last free update.
But we'll see ;)

i think it will be a good thing that the free updates are nearing the end.
Although Pixologic to my knowledge have never use it as an excuse for some instabilities/bugs or any other shortfall, we all know that we have been getting a free ride. And we all know its hard to turn down a free ride. :)
So maybe this might be a turning point where each update is worked out to the max. Ensuring stable features that anyone would be happy to pay for.

Sure thing ;)
Though I think they have been doing rather well to this point, every update so far, has brought lots of new and innovative features. They just need to fix some of the strange problems. Like the displacement exporter, I remember spending about 16 hours with a friend trying to get it to work properly with max, and we ended up with going with some strange workaround.
