View Full Version : Pinup - Steffen Unger
Hello everyone,
i just started my own pinup based on the awesome designs by Chris Sanders
here are my current steps, i'm using zbrush and max for very simple basemesh blocking

definitely still a shitload of work to do, but its challenging and fun to get chris' great work into the 3rd dimension

Chris Sanders' work is awesome and your model looks pretty good so far. I would scale down the head as the current proportions make her look more like an 8 year old girl with a woman body.
Nice to see a different style , keep it up:thumbsup:
Hey Pascal,
thank you for your input, yeah i wanted to play around with the head in Photoshop to see what might work better, but basicly there are designs in chris' portfolio that have a even "crazier" head/body ratio, so i'm not decided yet :)

Welcome :)
Nice start on your pinup. I like the style. Looking forward to your updates
thank you :)
here is the next step
http://www.polyphobia.de/public/pictures/3d/speedies/sculpts/chriss_04.jpg
scaled the head down to 93%
fixed some of the proportions like
-less round head
-arms a bit more chunky to support the wide legs better
- tweaked the hands
blocked the hair very rough
oh well i wish i had more time after work ^^

Great style to this one, I love it! The changes you made were really solid and I think pulled it together a bit more. Can't wait to see this progress!

she looks great already - nice proportions indeed
thanks guys, tweaked a bit further, now i think i can start working on a retopoed mesh, think about a pose and well if i dress her up or not :D
and if i even retopo her or not, not sure ^^
- changed the arms thickness in the sideview, but still might need a bit less thickness
- changed the eyelashes to be wider and thicker
- added a bit more polypaint
- worked on the hair further
- changed the matcaps of skin and hair / need to tweak the colour and specular for the hair matcap, but damn i love matcaps/litspheres for fast previews
- worked a bit on her hips/thighs more
basicly just tiny subtle stuff but i hope it works better :)

i've been lucky to discover her before you've finished the clothing!!:drool:
did the retopo with 3dcoat today, will add a bit more geo around theknees to maintain the shape there

Lovely style indeed, you're doing excellent job on this lady! with such topology and juicy volumes, would be sweet to animate :)
i recently bought me max 2011 so i decided to finally give mental ray a go and play around with that renderer, for ages i just used the scanliner, as i'm usually a realtime dude i never needed more, wanted to go in a bit of a toy/doll look with it
so here we go now i should start with some clothing ^^

'so here we go now i should start with some clothing ^^'
:( ...if you think you should...:(
oh i recieved quite a lot of mails calling me pervert, pedophile and her looking preteen and whatever, so i thought it might be better to cover her up a little, just a little ;)
but it also gives me the possibilities to play further with colours so here is what i did
http://www.polyphobia.de/public/pictures/3d/speedies/sculpts/chriss_08.jpg
worked on the textures and shading/rendering, i have to say, coming from the realtime background makes it a really pain in the *** to waaaaaaait and waaaaait :D
ok, no more clothes, that's fine!!
i love this render, just some dubt about reflexion in the eyes.
perhaps some little changes on the face should bring her older...
can't wait posing!

Sweet, nice updates : )
I like the render. looks good!
Not sure about the eye reflections, but I would rotate the eyes a little outwards, as she looks very cross eyed.
But a nice overall work so far!

Looking really good :)
Maybe you could down the glosiness for the eye reflections a tad, just so it looks a bit softer and less mirror like.
hehe, gota get use to rendering and waiting. I spend more time rendering then sculpting these days :/

Nice render! I agree with the eyes reflection, is she going to wear shoes?
Cheers
P.
hehe ok gonna tone down the reflection a bit, but to keep it in a bit of a stylized doll and toon like direction i wanted a super sharp and this time not just round shaped reflection, thats why i used that stylized window to get reflected only in the eye, i might make it a tiny bit less glossy but i don't want blurry reflections in the eye i really want a crisp look
i really like the style and the proportions...
its allways hard for me to find the right forms, curves...
great work..!

Looking good:thumbsup:To me the eye reflections should be in the same place both eyes?
thank you guys :)

how should that be possible? you have 2 spheres and place something to reflect, be it a light or like i did a plane, the perspective prevents that the reflectionvectors will end in the same point, the only way would be to create 2 different relective spots and bind those to the seperate eyes, i'm not sure if i can tell MR to reflect something different on one object than on another
or to show what i mean:

Saw this over at ZBC the other day but wasn't logged in, as soon as I saw the legs I thought 'Chris Sanders!'. You;'ve really captured the appealing forms in his designs.
I agree that the reflections in the eye are a little intense at the moment, but disagree that they should be identical - though I have seen some people set up specific (small, close) lights/planes for each eye to achieve this effect.

I dont know its allways the way I thought it should be done, like here,
1581
Maybe making the reflector bigger but much further away will cut down the divergence?
yep moving if further away would be a solution but if you look closely you'll see that the reflectionsa re not the same in the shots too, but thank you for the references!
ok did a fast rig and rough skinning, have to fix quite a lot of stuff
http://www.polyphobia.de/public/pictures/3d/speedies/sculpts/project10/pose_01.jpg
will ad a towel to her left hand and integrate the bands of her slip to the other hand
i think i'm gonna do 3 poses in a triptych with different background and maybe bikini and hair colours
