I really like your style, nice and clean shapes with strong silouettes.
Do you do your designs straight in 3d or on paper first?
Keep posting more of those cool creatures :dance:

Really nice design, storm! I love your work style/design! very fast and simple!
Are you always drawing some concept image or something before start to sculpting?

This is some cool stuff!

Same quality as the sea creature. I agree with PascalR, you have to finish it first, it turns realy nice.

Cheers

@Pascal
Well know I've got to finish my aquadude :beerchug:
And thanks, really glad you like him ;)
I'll look into making something that show my process, can't promise when though ;)

@Emanuel
Gee.. thanks man, I'm really glad to hear that :D
Yeah you got me, I've got 3 gnomes on unicorns jumping around on my tablet all day, while I sit back and relax ;)

@Manuel
Thank you, glad you like them.
And yep I usually start on paper, I'll upload some of my sketches later, I usually don't spend to much time on the 2D part if I know I'm gonna make a 3D model, so they tend to be just the lines.

@Ken
Thank you Ken, really glad you like them ;)
Like I said i usually do a sketch on paper first, though sometimes I just go straight to zbrush.

@fantasymaster
Thanks man, glad you like them, I'll get working on finishing my fishdude.

Thanks for the comments guys, really appreciate it!

Love it! I think it has more personality than that T-Rex in Disneys Meet the Robinsons. Youve got quite the knack for these cartoony characters. I really enjoy seeing them come to life.

Thanks Lee! That really great to hear, as I've been working on getting the feel from my drawings transfered better to my 3D models.

Hey guys, I actually never thought this would happen, but I finally got back to this one, thanks to Thomas ;)
I got this fella a brand new topology, and I guess I learned something new, I started out as a blender user back in the days, and I decided to go back and try out the retopo feature, and I think it speeded up my re-topology process with 400% or something like that, so definitely recommend that as a free re-topology tool.

Anyway, I know that besides that not much have happende yet, but I would really like to take this one futher, and I was thinking that some skin like this:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/dinorower/1041879797/
Would be great.
My only problem is that I don't really have much of a clue about how to get started on it, I've never really gotten into skin-details like this before, so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

collings

for the skin details process, there are different way you can do it.

like for instance, painting in photoshop a few alphas with that kind of patterns and then start to laying down them in Zbrush ( Kind of the sculpting approch) . OR painting your color map in photshop and then from your color map you create a bump/dispalcement map. ( All in texture no sculpting)

etc...

Storm

Thanks collings, I was thinking alphas was the way to go, but didn't know if there was some "magic" trick that I didn't know about , I guess I better get down to it then ;)

awesome man, can't wait to make him move!

Storm
23-08-2010, 12:51 PM
Hey thomas its actually really close to being ready for you to play with, as the final details will be for the displacements.
Before I send it to Thomas, I was wondering if any of you would have some suggestions on how to improve my UV layout, I'm no great UVmaster, so any suggestions would be much appreciated ;)

And I need to move the mesh around abut around the eye, the projection messes it up a tiny bit.
