Posting this now so i'm motivated to try and finish it.

I'm thinking of doing two versions, One based on Frank Frazetta theme and another based on a more modern day pinup that is a little ghetto themed.

Start of the mesh, Texturing it now and then I'll will move onto finishing the sculpting since its kinda crap right now.

I was also was throwing around some ideas of doing a battle version of the Frank frazetta pinup, Kinda like my Painless model I did a while back.

Nice to see more entries with a different style. Frazetta theme sounds cool.
Really nice textures and shading on the guy

Very nice to see a different style indeed and I don't think your sculpting look kind of crap at all!
Don't give up on finding a job, it takes time for sure but you've got some skills so keep it up

Hello Mike, sweet pieces of work, especially the girl is quite juicy - "Druuna-esq"
I might say :) I wish you all the best with your job hunting, good things come to those who wait, as they say ;)

Cheers guys,
Yeah im sure I'll eventually find a job somewhere.

Here's a dodgy render of the textures, still needs more work. No modeling changes just yet.

I really like it, looking great so far Mike
What renderer are you using?

Man your work is awesome and it's quite depressing that you're still looking for a job !!

Waiting to see in which way you are going to pose her

Giving up.. If I had a dollar everytime I said that I'd be rich.
But yea. Its tough. Keep going man. You have mad skills. Its got too come right.

Anyway..

I dig this woman you have here. Nice texture job. Only thing I think needs some love is her ankles/lower leg. They may be too thin for the size woman she is. The calves could be ending too high up I think.
This will look sick with some of those hair tests you did.

mike i love your texture work, it's very nice. models look great too. only thing that bothers me is the amount of green bleed on your shader? for the female(green is important but it's too much in some areas). it's evident on the legs especially. makes the render look somewhat flat.
dont give up, i guess there isnt much work in that area right now. but you obviously do great work, not many out there do. it would be a waste..what about freelancing, doing non-char work for a job in the meantime?
im in the same boat, i freelance as a lighter for post houses since we dont have char work out here. but i've been on the lookout for a char modeling pos globally for a while..not easy finding a job internationally i know. but good things do happen in the end.

Awesome work Mike, I love Frazetta and his voluptuous women and your model and texturing is real powerful. Only thing I would say is she looks a bit cold :D

Keep your chin up looking for work  Think about where you will be in ten years time.

Thanks for the comments all, I'll be sure to address the crits :)

PascalR - 3Dsmax, Mental ray

mushu_mushu - Thanks dude, really encouraging to hear.

BrettSinclair - I've tweaked her all over now. I didn't really make her ankles much thicker tho, trying to keep her looking tall.

gal - I'm trying to do a lot of different things these days to try and find work. Trying to do all the different areas of character art. So I'm not just one of those guys who do humans or just monsters. Have some range :P

tonytrout - Thanks dude. I'm going to do a clothed version of her, but still kinda cold looking hehe.

Just a little update.

I still need to fine tune her textures.

Great work Mike  I love your feet sculpt, really nice shapes in there.
Are you extracting displacement maps for your renders? She looks smoother at render time (which I actually like).

This is going to look really great, keep it upclap

Truly front page work Mike, congrats! You have mastered female anatomy :)

MikeN
04-30-2010, 09:11 AM
PascalR - Thanks alot. She was decimated in those renders. Probably use displacement for final renders. I guess the type of lighting I'm using is making her look smoother.
Aumakua - Thanks for kind comments :)

Picture of her face, still a little ruff.

Looking good Mike, I thought the HD model of her face made her look mean and not so feminine but she looks prettier in your fully rendered version.
Keep it up man!

I agree with Pascal, prettier now although I think her features look a little small, but she certainly is a spectacular amazonian woman. Great work clap

Cheers guys,

Her face needs a little more work, but goes to show what makeup can do for women hehe.

Another update.
Just finishing her skin shader settings.

Nice textures Mike, I would raise the subsurface level just a bit, her nasal labial fold seems quite deep on this render I thought.

Nice work man:thumbsup:

Hey Pascal,
Thanks for the crits. I'll be re-working her face a little more to fix it.

Another tweak to the sss, still need to paint the sss color map a little better.

MikeN

Finished the sss maps. Pretty hard to find a balance for the scattering under all lighting conditions.

Map on the left controls the scatter depths and colors.

Now onto the bump map that I should of created a long time ago:banghead:

Just found this thread! Great work Mike, she is quite sexy for a plump lass! :bouncy: I can't wait to see this progress further. Her pose a few posts back looks ace!

Forgot to say, your textures look a little too contrasted and the renders seem to have allot of spec or reflection on the shader. Perhaps work on the noise a little. Or try out some better render settings, just to make sure.

Keep it up

Really nice work so far! Very good model, textures and shading.
And because I know what you can do with hair, I have no doubt that the end result will be great! :beerchug:

Wow, that looks fantastic, the pose looks very natural, though I think maybe lovering the left leg, would make it look more relaxed, just a thought.
Can't wait to see the final image :D

Great sculpt Mike, the rib cage looks a bit funny from the side view, but yeah this pose looks quite nice!clap
Now just give her some proper 50's clothing and voila ;)
Great work!

Is this like a 70's outfit? Would be nice to make it more 50's but your model looks great!
Great work:thumbsup:

Wow Mike! Very impressive. I love it all.
Will that be the lighting look you go for or is it just for wip purposes? Cause I think its a bit flat and isn't showing off your model as well as it could.

Was this rendered in Max's Mentalray or Vray?

On a side note I wonder how she would look with a 1940's old Hollywood studio lighting?

Great work!

Thanks all so much :bouncy:

PascalR - I'm going for a modern feel with slight 60s-70s feel. Maybe this is more what your thinking ?
2005

BrettSinclair - The lighting isn't final.

BrettSinclair - I'm using Mental Ray now, I find it produces better studio type lighting then V-Ray

tiktok - I'll be sure to post it up on my next post :)

Some peoples work is so good it is inspirational to you and where you are in your own skill level it beckons you to create or compete. Others work is so astonishing that at first it crushes your hope of creating or competing. This model, textures, shaders, lighting, is all ASTONISHING to me. I entered this challenge in hopes of being able to hang. Looking at this makes me realize I need a lot more practice at everything.

PascalR

Hey Mike, I was more thinking about the 50's as in Elvgreen's painting but what you've got looks good.
Keep it up man, you gotta finish it

Great work indeedclap I would lower the whiteness of teeth and eyes sclera just a touch. Is her elbow cropped in the first render?
Wow Mike is coming from the future as seen in your watermarked copyright ;)

Cool stuff:D

MikeN
06-24-2010, 10:15 PM
Thanks all :)

PascalR - Thanks alot. hehe was like 3 in the morning when I finished up:rofl:. I'll be sure to fix them up.

Her elbow is suppose to be leaning against a wall. So I added a small section of it. It does kinda look weird, not sure how else to go about adding that illusion.

Congratulation Mike for your entry and your Third place !
Your pinup is great !
She make me think like an amazon
your technical skills are awesome.
just two things for me on your final entry in my opinion:
She has maybe just a bit too much muscular mass for a pinup for me and the head seems to be just a bit too small but the rest is really top !!
Good job man !!
Chris.
