Hi storm !
I relly like your models and if you are ok, I would like to make a render on Guerilla on one of them.
Storm
13-05-2011, 01:39 AM
Hey Cédric, thanks really glad you like them ;)
And yeah that would be awesome! Got any model in particular in mind?
And what do you mean exactly when you say, "on Guerilla" is it a render program? (don't know much about rendering hehe)
pitiwazou
13-05-2011, 01:50 AM
Guerilla is a render software > http://www.guerillarender.com/gallery/
I made lot of picture with it like my actual work > http://www.pitiwazou.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/doggy_021.jpg
And other pictures more cartoon > http://www.pitiwazou.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/cedric_lepiller_pitiwazou_quickos_guerilla_3d_006_ 1280.jpg
> http://www.pitiwazou.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/cedric_lepiller_pitiwazou_santa_claus_010.jpg
I'm not an expert, but I think I can do a good picture with one of your's models.
If you want, I check the one I would render and if you want one in particular we can discust about it and about the environment, the posing etc ;)

I wish Dreamworks had some summer internship program that would fit me, but as of now they don't, I'm however really crossing my fingers that I'll get the summer internship at Disney, though it seems like a long shot.

Ahaha poor little lonely thing :) That would make a cool poster!
I know you are on stylized approach but what about making the shadow part of the creature (Where there should be bounces of the ground) more reddish? Kind of GI stuff, its subtle but maybe it would bring some neat and cool enhancement.

Thanks a bunch Max, glad you like it :D
I got like a million sketches I want to upload, since I had the amazing honor of having Peter Chan! as a teacher for one week, it was so freaking awesome, he is without a doubt the best teacher I've ever had and just a fantastic person to be around, amazingly talented as well (yeah I've gone full fanboy), I wish I could like you guys to his stuff buts its impossible to get by it as he doesn't have any site and has basically tried to limited his exposure on the internet completely.
Anyway, I can't wait to show some of the work I did during that week.
but for now all I got is my exam this year. We are supposed to model and sculpt a bust of either Danial Radcliff or Audrey Hepburn.
At this stage I really don't think mine look much like her at all, but at least it look like a female and I feel pretty good about the topo as well, so I'll be tweaking the shape till friday. Any suggestions are much appreciated! (and needed! ;) )
7080
7079
7078
nice stuff storm, like your Dragon sketch a lot as for your women bust i think the most obvious thing is the shape of her jaw, since she has very strong shape in her lower shape, also the form of her lips need more love:)
Ps:watch My fair lady and search for Adam huge works, maybe this helps a lot

Hey Mohammad! Thanks for the comment, I'll take a look at those things for sure ;)

17-06-2011, 07:55 PM
hey frederik!
nice start on audrey and good luck with the exams.
as for crit i think you should look a little more on the jawline. seems like audreys jaw is more angulare than on your model. also check her eye corner. the ref had a quite clear/pronounced "eye line".

Like I said, I got a million sketches laying around, so let me start out with something I was working on this week. Its a movie to inform companies what animation is, and what kind of work goes into it. So hopefully, when they hire a company to do some animation, they know what kind of work is involved.
My job on the project has been to just throw out ideas for characters, backgrounds, storyboards, compositions, colors etc. I've done a lot of different work, and its been really fun, you can check out the blog for the project here:

No I haven't, the amount of thoughts story related I put into any of my characters is extreamly limited. When I'm just sketching for myself, I just let my pen fly over the paper, don't really think much about what I want to draw, I just see what pop up.
I only think about story and stuff when I'm working for others and I got a script or something to go from.

hahha.. great bumble bee. you should make a 3d version of that.
robot looks great too.
i think the "shoulder" intersection could be better. -maybe just cut a crease around the shoulder geo.
it could also be fun to see it with some more skewed shapes, like in your sketches.

Thanks Rasmus :D
Yeah I was considering making it in 3D as well ;)
You are very right about the shoulders, I'll fix that once I divide the mesh once, that way I'll also get rid of all the pentagons ;)
And yep definately more skewed, I think I'm just gonna pose him in zbrush to get that.

The alien feels very even. Like all his proportions seem to relate to each other in size. For me, at least, it seems to weaken it a bit. Love the face and head... just don't know about the proportions.

Are you thinking about how it would smooth and deform? Fingers I think could be reduced too. Though it's hard to really tell from the screen shot.
nice and even topology for the most part. sweeet!
you rigging this bad boy?
Storm
16-11-2011, 09:27 PM
@Mrguy
Exactly, I'm not sure about the fingers, I mean from my understanding to make small thick fingers like that deform well, but maybe I over did it, I tend to do that hehe :)

So first off an new character, I don't know how many of you have ever heard of them, but back when I was a little kid I had the most awesome toys, called Street Sharks. And Basically I just decided to pay a little tribute to them by making my own version of my favorite of them:
9751
9752
9753
And here are some updates on the alien:
9754
9755
9756
9757
9758
I'd love to hear what you guys think!
Mrguy
04-12-2011, 06:45 AM
Loving the shark. I use to watch Street Sharks as a kid on Saturday Morning cartoons. :) I think form and topology are really solid. Esthetically the only thing that bugs be is the way his back region drops/sags down. I would have liked to see that tightened up and pulled up a bit but it's just esthetically speaking. Someone else could view it differently.
Alien is looking solid. As I look at the back with the rockets it made me think. This guy would be killer if he had some crazy a-symmetry going on. (granted it's already killer) Though this model is next to complete, so I would challenge to you to do an alien like this next time but have extreme a-symmetry through out the whole model.
shark man rocks! would be cool to see him rigged/animated!
Syntax Error
04-12-2011, 12:31 PM
Street Sharks Character ... just another 'awesome' comment.
the only thing i'd like to see is crisper/tighter edges on the wife-beater, pretty much a no feedback feedback.
so, did a major studio already pick you up for character modeling/concept?
your models look so much better than most of the toon stuff you can see out there.

Storm

@pitiwazou
Thank you Cedric! So glad you like it :)
@PascalR
Thanks Pascal! Yeah I did a very rough concept in zbrush, but I actually modeled most of it in maya. Although I used 3D coat for retopo of the head, and the arms and legs and such, but with no detailing. I used some very basic models from zbrush with snap to point in maya to make sure that holes and such stayed in the right level.
So I guess zbrush was in the end pretty handy hehe :)
Oh and yeah the fingers could use some work!
andreicirdu
08-12-2011, 02:07 AM

Storm it would be cool to maybe see one of these character's taken a bit further down the pipeline road.
Maybe do a simple set of blend shapes for some expressions.
Potential employers love to see that you can do that sort of thing.
Storm
27-02-2012, 05:03 AM
Thanks a ton for the kind words Steve!
That is a really good point, maybe I should see if I can give one of my characters some blendshapes. It is so hard to figure out what to put in my showreel, I'll be applying for disney's internship, and have had some great feedback so far, but if you guys have any suggestions, it would be totally awesome, I'll begin to put my reel together real soon!
Also suggestions on what I should put in it, I already have some plans.
This guy Triceratops I plan to finish, and then these models:

And I hope to get "my animator" Jonas to animate a sweet walkcycle of my Boose to show in the reel as well, with fur and everything.
Mrguy
27-02-2012, 07:50 AM
Make sure to show your drawings for each model you put in your reel. I think blend shapes would be good. But something that might be better is a hard surface model and an environment model. Also more full body whimsical characters. That was some of the stuff they liked to see when i was trying for dreamworks and disney. But im sure you'll get it just from your pedegree on the web and the quality of your current work. Where is the disney internship going to be? If you dont mind me saying; I really dont think theres anyone more diserving then you and i really hope you get it. Have you also tried bluesky or luma?
Storm
27-02-2012, 10:28 PM
Thanks Craig, I really appreciate it! Yeah I was gonna show the drawings as well, the recruiter said I should do that as well. Maybe I should try if I can find the time for a hard-surface model as well. I'll get some more feedback soon hopefully.
I'm pretty sure it will be in Burbank. It is the summer modeling internship I'll be applying for.
I'll finish this model up, and then take a look at how much time I got to actually render stuff out, put it together, hopefully find the time for one more model, but then again, it might be to much to show in the reel.
