Hey zeoyn, your character idea looks interesting, before I go ahead and give you comments on anatomy and clothing wrinkles, is he supposed to look realistic or stylized? I am guessing he is holding a glass, any other props/clothing planned? Also if you are doing this one from an artwork or photo ref, it would be really cool to see them for comparison :)
The pose looks quite natural,
cheers

HI Pascal!
Well, the intention is to be a stylized/cartoonish approach, not realistic. Like a comic book who has come alive. In fact he will be holding a cigarette between his thumb and forefinger.
The character has been built from my head without any photo references.
I know that the cloth in his trousers looks like it is melting :)

Thank you for your interest!

Hey zeoyn,
I especially like the shapes closer to the pelvis. This is a wip right? everything from the waist down looks a bit unfinished. I think you've done a really great job of mocking a comic book character, I definitely get that from this piece.
It would be great to see him rigged and animated.
Nice Work!

Hi Pyro!
Yes, it is a WIP, especially from the waist down.
Thank you for your feedback. I hope you will like the next post :)
Best,

Really like this character Jose !! clap Can't wait to see your next post on this one, with the pants reworked. Considering your work on Mouse Love & Le Rabbit, I'm sure the final image will be great !

HI Guys, this was in the shelf for a while.
Finally an update!
I have corrected part of the upper body anatomy and added some more detail.
I still have to change those trousers
Here is the latest WIP:

Hi Zeoyn
The trousers folds don't seem very convincing even for a cartoon, they look like they are melting, especially in the back. Keep us updated.

I have updated the upper body a bit more. Also worked on giving him a more chiseled look on the body to match his face.

Pascal, Thanks. I am trying to achieve a more 2D look, with graphical lines. I am really glad you are liking this ;)

I really like the way he is turning out. I'm a real sucker for nice clean, graphical forms in organic designs - especially knowing how incredibly difficult it is!
If I had one crit, I'd say that the detail in his left leg (the one with his hand in the pocket) looks a little at odds with the rest of his pose.
Would love to see more of this guy!

Nice lighting! Is the noise on the ground and pants coming from the shadows settings or textures? What renderer is this? Vray?
Nice!

Pascal,
The renderer is Vray. The "texture" on the image is just an overlay with a noisy image in photoshop to break the coldness of the render.
Thanks :)

Just got a cgportfolio notification and saw that you'd uploaded the final image, looks fantastic man, great character, love his mix of sharp and soft shapes!
Gotta be honest, I didn't think it looked to good to begin with from the early wips, but as usual it ended up looking super tight!

Pascal: thanks for the plug!!
goron: Thanks!
Storm: I really appreciate your honesty! :D Now that I look at the first images I admit that they are REALLY ugly. I guess I started posting it too soon, because I work by refining, refining refining until it's done. But when I looked at that blobby mesh I was seeing my intention and not how it really looks. Now I really feel like removing the first images, but I also think that they show really well my thinking process! :) I am glad you like the final result. I will post it here too!
