Greetings to all,

I'm currently working on a creature for a short and decided to get some professional feedback from the community here. So please do give me your honest feedback because I appreciate any pointers and criticism which would help make this creature a better one. :)

This creature lives in a rocky/badlands(more rock less greens) environment. It is feline and slightly reptile. The creature travels in packs like wolves. It has lips that hide a set of teeth and gum that is revealed when snarling.

So far the ideas to make this creature unique, is the snout, the hard skin on the head and along the back of the spine, the tail, and the beard (which i'm still not sure how it will look like, perhaps blade thin like).

The image below is the sketch so far... I haven't worked on the legs and most of the sculpt is just for the main silhouette...only managed to work more on the head so far.

Please give me any ideas/questions/suggestions... Thanks guys :)

Cool creature, can't help thinking about a creature I've wokred on at work :)
So it is a good thing you know you're going with the felin anatomy, I suggest grabbing lots of lion anatomy ref for muscles and proportions.

Here is aquick and dirty paint over, mainly focused on the head silhouette, I am not saying you should follow this idea at all (as I am not happy with this drawing anyways), but I'd draw some 2d sketches to define the contour if I was you, instead of going 3d so soon.

Cool stuff, I like the front shot of the head and top view of the back lates.

cheers

:welcome: Hey great to see your stuff up here.

Cool design! Brought to mind this particular StarWars comic i read. might want to look at it
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Thon

Question: Is it a Feral beast? meaning how intelligent is the creature? Does it go straight for your guts (like viper wolves in AVATAR) or is it a cold calculative killer like a wolf or the raptors in Jurassic Park.

Having seen your old design.... is it still a digger?
All the best for your short as well :)

P.S: Someone is waiting for his durians...

Hi PascalR, thanks so much for the ideas :)
The forms are really interesting! This head is definitely gonna change :p

Hey Elvin :)
Thanks for the reference of Thon. Actually now the story has changed a lot since the last time :p This creature no longer digs.. and is more intelligent. In the short, he uses dead bodies as baits. Gotta persevere man!
p.s. I already owe him a basket... sigh...

Hey dude feel free to take it or leave it as im no pro or anything so my say doesnt have much weight but i just felt that your creature was missing something in the rear(ish) area so i just did a sketch over on your render. Just felt the hind legs and tail weren't working so well for you, but props on the model man  the detailing looks sweet.

Hey sam.balzer, thanks for the idea :)
Agree with you bout the tail, it needs such a tail to balance it's body. Right now i'm trying to avoid a long tail because my friend who's animating doesn't want the secondary action haha :p
It's interesting how you modded the tough skins on the spine into blades of some kind and to make it fall off before the pelvic bone because it gives the illusion of the creature being more front heavy with the bigger front silhouette. Great ideas here... am experimenting as I post. Get back to you guys asap :)

As I incorporated some of the ideas here, and am still thinking hard about how to fuse more ideas in, I've come up with this so far... still much work to be done. Changed the silhouette to a less 'predator' breed to more of a 'scavenger' type. Decided to make the head scaling go all the way along the spine and into the tail but only managed to work a bit on the tail. Fleshed in some muscles but more work needed. Altered the snout to give it a less reptile look so that the head blends in better with the body type. The eyes still need work. Haven't worked on the chin yet. The bottom left is a visualization of the creature snarling :p .

Any opinions/ideas or pointers? :)
Thanks guys.

The look was more scary previously, so i reverted the snout back to the reptilian kind..but retained the eyes. Worked on the front legs too.
