Here's an image i did for a canceled Aliens game for the PS3 and XBOX360. The entire thing was done in a couple days all in Photoshop.

Oh that looks great, you should try to edit your first post and attach the picture to it which will give you a thumbnail for your thread hopefully.
I would love to see some wip pictures of this one, the mood and level of detail are stunning.
Great work clap

Hey Pascal, I can't seem to attach the image. :( It keeps looking like it's going to post but it doesn't. It might be an issue on my end.
Sorry I don't have any images for progress on this as I was laid off the day of cancelation and this was all I got out with. But in all honesty this was one of those painting where I didn't really know how I did it. I kind of just painted it from the background out and got really lucky on this one.
The idea though is that a SpaceJockey ship has crashed landed on a derelict planet and grew an ecosystem out of it. It gets discovered at some point and that's where the story starts.

Thanks for all the encouraging words guys! Here are a few more pices from that project. The 2 vehicle sketches give a good indication as to how I start a design piece in black and white. There is actually no 3D work to start from in those.
I begin with a standard perspective grid and light with a single directional, paint in the ambient occlusion, and start detailing from there.
Then to add tone I paste in a bunch of photo textures to get some basic noise.
Then add a layer in Photoshop to color.
And finally just start putting in a lot of elbow grease painting.
I'd have to say that being a 3D artist myself, it actually helps a lot doing rendering and being able to understand lighting on a technical level as it helps free me up from having to start from photo sources as most illustrators do.

I've got a few other things I want to post and was wondering if it's alright to post concept work here also.

Looks great , thanks for sharing these!
And yes please feel free to post your concepts here, actually I wonder if it would be worth renaming the matte painting section into a 2D works one.
Please keep posting, and thanks for explaining your process :beerchug:

Hey Bayard, I think I am just going to rename this section:
Matte Paintings/2D artworks.
People tend to think the WIP forum is for 3d only so let's help painters posting here :)
Cheers

the first concept has such a great mood to it, its a shame the project got cancelled.

That year saw a lot of US entertainment projects get canceled simply because they ran out of investment money because loans were being closed out. Stupid reasons really. It sort of guaranteed that no one saw their investment returns after getting through funding a project half way.
