i started a new little project this sunday. still early but here is how the wolf beast looks so far. I'm planning to create the fur inside Modo as well as the textures with the 3d painting tools. :)

cool! Did you use any anatomy reference for this one? Is the neck going to be covered with fur? And one last question, is that a modo render? :)
cheers:beerchug:

Hello nico !
Cool beast, I'm not fan of the eyes.

thank you guys.
As anatomy reference i have one of the freedom of teach statue on my desk, pretty awesome but i confess i just went freestyle on this one by using my mental library as a ressource :sw: . I'm aware there are some issues like you guys pointed out like the eyes or the neck , it's still very much wip tho. I will keep going playing with the shapes and design, and will refine the anatomy along the way :)
Pascal; yes the neck will be partially covered with fur. I used Modo again for the render. just love it. :D

Hey!
Dude, this is really cool! I'm digging this community more and more day by day! :D
Really love the design and the work on the mouth!
Show us more please!
Are you having any concern about mesh quality and transition to other packages?
best,

thanks man, it's still the mesh from the zsphere so the topology right now is quite basic but i'm planning to make a retopo soon.
I'm doing this model to try out some features of modo. rendering/3dpainting/uvs/fur . Will see how it ends up. ^^ 50

cool model collings!
I think the face is just a bit too busy/ too many wrinkles everywhere. I would try to keep some areas smooth, like the cheek bones just to balance the detailing level a little bit. The nasal labial fold could be simplified too, probably more like it was in the first version imho. I love the mouth area, lots of character!
Cheers!

Great job !!!
good start collings but i think the horn design is working well right now. it looks more like a big eye brow than a horn. also the shape of the eye balls not look spherical enough.
also the mouth design seems wierd with the teeth coming out of the lips. i think u need to define a lip lining, then define a gum area surrounding the teeth and then the teeth. that should be possible while keeping your high level design.

thanks guys.
MM; you're right about the eyes they don't look right at the moment and i think you just spot on the issue, i' ll give it a try to give them more depth. About the mouth it's actually made on purpose, i went for a crocodile kind of mouth so no lips nor gums. Still mainly in progress , i changed quite a few things on this update. I also did some test for the fur inside modo, it's not gonna be easy :D

Vey promising test:thumbsup: Love the color variations.
Any plans for the drops on skin? Are the eyeballs missing or is it just an occlusion thing?
Great work Collings:beerchug:

merci pascal, i didn't think about doing drops of sweat or water on his skin but it could be great :) . The eyeballs, teeth and tongue are missing right now, as well as the fur.

ah cool, I can see the rain in the background picture so I thought you intended to do a drop pass on the body :)
Keep up the great work!

awesome model. I love how you handle the wrinkles. Did u start the base mesh in zspheres or some other program??

Really nice creature design. The render test is sweet. The idea of that guy lurking on the edge of a forest on a rain-soaked evening is chilling! Just for pig iron:how's the Modo renderer to work with?

Hey guys, I decided to get this dude out of the old box. I can't believe it's been already almost a year that i didn't touch this guy.
Anyways, I worked on it again last week-end and a bit this last couple evennings. Here is how it looks so far, still need to texture the shoulderpad and to model some more stuffs. I've already tried my final post-prod treatment on the pics just to have an idea where it's going.

I like where your heading with this one. I think right now the eyes are calling too much attention to themselves. Its like they're glowing. Also, it looks like there is a lot of back scatter going on where the horn meets the scalp. Might want to tone that down a bit. Love the cinema feel to the final presentation!
Wow! looking really cool :bouncy:
can't wait to see the texture works. keep it up

Very cool update Nico!
I agree with Bryan regarding the glowing eyes, and I would probably lower the background radial blur, or add a bit more on the character's sides. He looks stunned, is this what you're after? Like if something was coming at him instead of him attacking someone.
Looking forward to more on this one:thumbsup:

thanks for your feedback guys, i turned down the brightness on the eyes last night. About the expression, yeah it's like if he was in `alert` being chased by a bunch of mad human being ^^.

That is looking great !!
I also think that the eyes are taking agression out of the image, they make him look quite human, nicer than he could be. It might be worth trying other type of eyes that make him look more like a beast. Some ideas here:
