Hey Guys,

I just finished modeling a Ch-53e Super Stallion and started UVing it. I just noticed some pinching problems along the UV seams. My typical workflow is set up for mental ray, so I usually leave my mesh at its lowest division. When im about to render i hit "3" and go into smooth mesh preview. OK, so the problem. My uv's are fine when im at level 1, but when i move into smooth mesh preview, random places along the uv seam begin to stretch. I dont run into this problem often but for some reason it is happening to this model. If anyone has run into this problem or has any advice i would appreciate it.

Thanks everyone,
And just want to say that this site Rocks!!

:welcome:brepka!

Do you still get these stretching at render time? I know maya subd preview sometimes shows uv stretchings that are not actually there once the model is properly subdivided.

Cheers

Hey PascalR,

Thanks for the reply!!

Yeah it does stretch at render time.
I tried to solve it by poly smoothing it and when i do that the UVs change and i can totally see where they are stretching in the UV editor. So i have to go in an manually move the uvs that got moved, which is a pain. Plus, now that i smoothed it my mesh is really dense. Not sure if that makes since or not.

Thanks,
brepka

You can call me batman ;)
So if you collapse those elongated edges coming from the windows, before they reach the uv seam, it should fix your issue. If you keep your faces square along the uv seam it should fix the stretching.
Here is a screenshot to explain.
