can't wait till someone integrates all this game tech into a 3d app :sw:
curious what this realtime displacement means for digital sculpting?

wow the first video is really great indeed:rofl:
i guess real time displacement would be really helpful for rigging and facial stuff, you could check nothing is crashing or stretching in your viewport.

thanks for the vids!

Are you sure that first video is DX11? That cinematic is from the beginning of last year I believe.I remember caused I must have watched it at least 50 times

Makes you wonder about the longevity of render farms. I can hear myself in 40 years..."when I was your age, kids..."

Actually, I think 3ds Max may be spearheading some of this tech in the app world. It adds quite a few viewport options that other apps don't have, and which are similar to high-res game output. And modo does OpenGL displacements already. Very handy for painting textures, actually. (now if only its painting was a bit more robust...)

That first video isn't realtime, I found the old article about it on cgsociety, still awesome however!

This is pretty amazing.

This is a video on real time ray tracing with Nvidia's new cards which looks interesting but Caustic Graphics (http://www.caustic.com/) seem to be way ahead with this technology (they're having to use 3 cards in this nvidia video!). The Caustic graphics hardware looks to have huge potential, exciting times.

The hair demo is neat, real time hair preview in maya would get me excited . The first video of the planes is just a boys dream of pure fun, who cares if its not DX11. How am I gonna explain DX11 to the wife when I want to upgrade, it needs a sexier name for sure :D

very exciting stuff, however, it just takes so long for developers to get that sort of tech running and into games. look at how much DirectX 10 was hyped, yet nothing really uses it. I'm extremely excited that this sort of tech is being developed and pushed, but I have a feeling it will be quite sometime until it is fully adopted. the issue really lies within the business side of game development. it requires so much time and money to implement this stuff.

as much as I, and the consumers, would like to see new consoles put out with better graphics and faster processors, it requires a major overhaul of a game development pipeline which many companies will find it hard to risk.

Those who haven`t seen octane render -link- (http://www.refractivesoftware.com/)
Pretty cool unbiased gpu renderer, look pretty fast too. : )
