My first post here.. Billabong told me to come here to get some good critiques so I did ;)

I'm going to be working on an animation reel soon and wanted a few good characters to work with. I wasn't going to do much detail since animation was the focus but I like modeling too so...

I didn't know how much detail to add here since I was planning on putting fur on him, when I figure out how that is, so any advice on that would be nice. (I'll be using Maya for final results so any tips on fur would be most appreciated) Also, any detail you think I should add that will be seen would be nice too; along with any form I should work on.

I'm pretty new to sculpting so I'd like to get better if I could. I know I need a lot of work before I'm considered a decent character artist. Thanks a lot. :notWorthy:

:welcome:Kris!
Seems like a few people are working on werewolves, here is a thread where you can find some references.

Also, I have done a quick paint over on the face (didn't have time to look at the body yet), just to give you an idea of what I would change.

Keep it up!

Cheers

Sweet, thanks for the crits, Pascal. I'd like to know the process of how you tweaked my picture lol .. that's pretty cool.

I totally agree about the teeth and stuff.. I really think they need to have more CHOMP to them. The ear form, collar bone and neck muscle I will rework. I should know better than to keep a linear form in the design.

My question is, why would I make the head higher on top. In my opinion, it takes away from the fierceness of the creature. To give example, I was following this reference in particular but not trying to mimic it totally:

and then images like this for the head shape because I wanted it more dog-like, similar to an old white shepard dog I had back in the day:

So my question is, when should I not follow reference so much and do to the design what you did with the tweaks? Not that I'm arguing your tweaks, I just want to know when preference overrules reference :) I'm eager to understand so I can become better. Thanks a lot for the tweaks and I can't wait to see how you help me with the body :)

Hey Kris, no worries, that's just a photoshop animated gif.
Actually you're right about the forehead, I just wasn't sure how transformed he is supposed to be as the feet look quite human.
I would still smooth out the big crease running in the middle of the forehead (too deep especially from the 3 quater view)

Keep it up!
