Hi guys,

So I have been willing to do a pinup (I know so many on the web already) but she will probably turn into a soft alien version in the end.
For now I am warming up with updating my old generic woman model. Still a lot to do on the whole body, but here is a WIP

C&C are most welcome off course ;)

Cheers

Pascal

PS: I am just contributing to the challenge for fun and I am not able to win it obviously ;)

Looking forward to more updates too.

Cheers guys! I'll go ahead and cerate a challenge area as soon as I get sponsors for the prices. Or I could just bring people here for a weta workshop tour (just kidding unfortunately).

I'll post updates as soon as I have the eyes/cheek areas fixed (thank you Richard for your great live notes).
Will show the wireframe as soon as I get home tonight

Cheers!

Is it me or does she look kind of masculine? I can't quite put my finger on why though.

nice! for me, the human body is tough. sometimes you put too much anatomical muscle, but doesn't look great. can't wait see more

Is it me or does she look kind of masculine? I can't quite put my finger on why though.

Yes, to me too. Jaw and chin looks a bit too masculine. I'm not sure about the nose either, looks too prominent :)
But the whole shapes and proportions are there, it's just a matter of tweaks

PascalR
12-02-2010, 02:51 PM
Thanks guys for the comments, I'll have a look at these areas as well.
I used Megan fox mainly for the proportions but I probably got mislead with her jaw open pose on most of the photos :)

Thanks for your support, will create the pinup challenge in few hours.

Thanks Seb, usually I use maya zbrush mudbox bodypaint and renderman for maya.
I started using Megan Fox as a reference and then moved slightly towards Nathalie Portman, so it is kind of a mix.

The head is coming along nicely. Although i can't help but feel that the brow ridge looks a little too masculine.
It would be great to see more of the great artists on this site enter the challenge but i suppose everyone's too busy.

Very good start. The female face is so hard to get it right. Maybe itīs easier to judge, once she has some hairs and eyebrows.
Iīve already started my entry for this challenge. Not ready for a wip yet, but I can tell that I will go for a cartoony style. :)

PascalR
17-02-2010, 09:45 PM
Here is the wip body, still needs work on the legs, arms, feet,hands,etc...

:beerchug:

Very nice. For a pinup model, I would like to see more curves, but thatīs maybe just a personal preference.
Youīve already mentioned the arms, legs, hands and feet, so I donīt have anything to criticize for now.

Do you already have an idea for your image?
For my entry I just let it happen, some ideas will pop up as I work on it. Maybe not the best way to work on a 3d image, but sometimes I like it when doing personal work.

PascalR
18-02-2010, 02:22 PM
Thanks Manuel,

Yeah this is pretty much a generic boring model for now, I am just trying to get the anatomy look ok for now.
And yes I know where I want to go, I'd like to take one of Gil Elvgren paintings and make an alienish version of it.
So here is the painting I have in mind:

http://elvgrenpinup.com/images/LUCKY_DOG_1958_1_.jpg

I'd like to make her look more creature like (very slightly as she needs to look sexy) and have the dog more of a stupid drooling creature.

So this would be the goal here, but I'd like to be able to do different poses of her so it means a decent rig and cloth setup (which will take forever ;).

Cheers

I like the sound of alien-ing her or her pet. I can see it now :) Great idea.

How do you find sculpting first and posing afterwards, rather than vica versa? I think i remember reading your workflow tutorial on the zbrush site for the crouching lady. I find that doing it your way means that mirroring is easy for the hands face etc but that the bent joints can be a bit problematical for me if it has been sculpted to a higher level. I have used mudboxes sculpt with displacement map tool to transfer from a sculpted Tpose mesh to a posed mesh before with medium to reasonable results, it can save time for hands and feet and ears etc if they are not too disimilar

The breasts are bothering me a bit, the nipple seems a little low, or the underneath is not quite full enough for the weight suggested by upper half being quite inward, or the nipples should be tilting up a bit maybe, any way nice work. :beerchug:

PascalR
18-02-2010, 07:43 PM
Thanks for feedback Tonytrout, I'll take a look at the nipples

I don't recall posting a tutorial on zbrushcentral, but I intend to deform the cage in maya using a simple rig, then update the high rez in zbrush or mudbox and fix whatever looks odd. That's actually pretty close to what we are doing in numerous shots, sculpting over the rig ;)
I am not sure I will need extracted maps here, but if so, I'll make sure the cage has enough resolution so I can tweak whatever looks wrong without going back to the extraction.

Cheers

Iīm wondering what your workflow is to model a dense mesh like this.
Do you subdivide your lowres and work from there or do you add every edgeloop manually?

Thanks Seb, usually I use maya zbrush mudbox bodypaint and renderman for maya.

Hey Manuel,

For this particular one, I've used cyslice to retopo over an old model and then clean it up in Maya but I usually start from a very low rez model adjust the proportions, then subdivide, adjust the topology and if needed subdivide again, etc..

I am currently working on the feet, I will try to post updates soon.

Good work on the legs. I have a feeling that the pelvis bone is a little bit too high. From the side view, maybe the transition from the breast to the shoulder could be smoother/flatter?!. Like in this gif?

You have certainly been working hard on this. clap Nice work on the body detailing, she is realistic looking rather than idealised like a lot of pinups (ie longer legs, slimmer hips, bigger boobs than normal ladies have), so Im keen to see how you translate this to your vintage glamour concept.

Im not quite seeing how the stockings are held up by the top, shouldnt there be a garter belt or something, or have you found real clothing like this when you went shopping?
