Yeah that be really cool is i could see you pipeline :D

as for the head i modeled i start with the eyes and mouth and extruded from there and used bridge and swift loop tools till i ended up with the face.

after reading you comment this morrning and some i had on the uni forums i spent a lot of time looking in how to make the cuts etc.. this is what i made

programe used is maya and time taken is 14 hours solid to get to this (still go a lot to do):

http://dentys-fx.com/uni/human/concept/character%20idea.jpg

I'm trying to go for the fable style but i just cant seem to draw it how i see it in my head lol.

There have also been changes made to the character he now has a magpie that sits on his shoulder and its the characters only friend. the magpie also finds shiny things for the character to collect =]

another idea is :

having all the clothes dull with a couple of patches here and there but on the shoes having paint splatters and a little sack that he keep his shiny things in

sebcravoisier
03-06-2010, 03:12 PM
that's a pretty idea, maybe you can make a hat with a long feather or a flower or some thing like that.
i like the bird it's a cool idea!

Tom
03-07-2010, 01:46 AM
i started to clean this up but i'm not sure how to get the details i'm am after i really want to make this concept in the style of fable http://images1.fanpop.com/images/photos/1200000/Fable-2-screenshot-Poor-Family-fable-1299927-678-768.jpg:

Hi Tom,

I would recommend learning the basic facial anatomy, you don't need to know all the muscles names but just to keep in mind where muscles/bones and fat tissues live.
There are some good anatomy references links in this thread here:

http://www.cgfeedback.com/cgfeedback/showthread.php?t=8

Also I would try to match a specific photo reference to start with, it is super hard to sculpt a proper face from memory.

Also some inspirational works here:

http://www.selwy.com/

Keep it up! :beerchug:

sorry just a quick reply for now, your proportions look ok, but the armpit seems too low, the pectoral connection to the shoulder should be higher

keep it up!

Hi Tom, just a note about where this model is heading for now. There are a lot of small things that are throwing it out whack that are adding up to becoming larger problems down the road.

First off there are books that you can find to help you out on anatomy and proportions. Here's a link to some books in PDF format that are way out of print and should be standard learning for students but sadly aren't these days:

http://alexhays.com/loomis/

http://ineedfile.com/andrew-loomis-pdf

Other things that you might want to consider is getting to know your edge looping and the way it should work correctly. Here's a link to a really good article on how to control the looping on a mesh and exercises on making them:

http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=93651

I know it's a bit long and involved but these resources will help guide you for the rest of your career.

Since you are a Maya artist I recommend looking at Nex to help smooth the work flow of your poly modeling. It has a bunch of tools that will ease the pain of soft selection and raycasting:

http://draster.com/nex-1.5/

Finally one thing that you should really do is take your time and not rush things as it seems that you are in a hurry to finish the model. Slow down and model each piece as precisely as possible and test fit for proportions as you go. The cleaner and more exacting you work the better the outcome will be. The more you do it the faster you will get at it.

Keep it up man! Remember that all this is going to lead to great things!

I forgot to put up the adjustments i made to the mesh before zbrush

here i am working on the asset at the moment the top.

i texture the legs of the character so i could see how it would look before i spent ages modeling it but you get the idea all the clothing bits will be modeled lol i have till 2morrow night at 9pm to get this done :D

also this mesh i show is un-smoothed
