... I have never done any but thinking about it, so I was curious to know what people experiences are in this domain.

Here a few that seem to please some people I know:

i've printed two of my model at Offload Studio and i'm quite happy with them. But Ownage seems to make some finest print from what i saw. If i had to make new one i would go with them .

here is how my 3d prints from Offload look like : (they are about 20cm tall both).

Great stuff Collings! Thanks for sharing these, what did you provide to get the color as well? Or did you paint them?

Glad you ask, that's actually an important point in the difference btw Offload and Ownage for instance. Offload use a technology which enable them to print the texture map onto the model so it's almost entirely automade. At Ownage they paint the model by hand. Why did ownage prefer to go that way it's because the print technology which is able to print the texture map can not go into as much details. When you compare my 3d print with the one from Ownage, you can easily see that the surface is all smooth and clean on the ones from Ownage as opposed to mine where you can see some grain/noise and striation due to the print process.

If i had to go for another i would go with Ownage now. Though the FAke Bronze look from Offload looks damn cool on my desk. I'm less happy with abe , i think it would have be better with Ownage for that one'

Great infos, thanks collings.
Ownage 3d prints look quite accurate indeed.
So about the colour, can you provide a HD model with vertex color informations, or do you need to give Offload the UVed model+texture maps?

Cheers

for offload, you need to provide the zbrush file with diffuse texture map.
For ownage , you can provide the zbrush file and a render of how it looks with the texture apply to the model, and they will make the hand painted job to match your render.

This is really amazing stuff! I heard too of some process called direct metal sintering . They spray dust of metal in layers then melt it with a laser? You end up with a functioning metal part. This fellow I met in NY uses it for most of his art (at least the guns and other metal parts) http://www.robertlazzarini.com/

Could be really cool for robot type stuff? :sw:

The only 3D printing I have done is for some industrial bottle design prototypes in Wellington about 5 years ago and and they werent cheap and the quality was not great. The quality of Grasettis' 3D print is so way better, the technology has really improved to the point it looks worth doing. Im guessing thats a pretty big model though, 12"? so quite a few dollars. It might be worthwhile to use it for a mould to make some for sale I guess apart from the obvious joy of having one yourself. Cool models Collings

Hello,
I would like to share with you my feedback from a few 3d prints I've done so far..
The blue demon was printed by Growit3D, the Hoplites warrior by Protodemon and the Aquaman busts by 3DPS, a facility here in Athens that uses Z Printers.
The model from Protodemon is much more smooth and depicts the detailing better than the other two, while the Z Printer product has colour but is grainy.
I would like to have my next 3d print done by Ownage, because of the high level of detail they can produce.
