Hey Everybody,

I'm currently modeling Cedar Shake shingles for the roof of a house and I am having difficulty figuring out how to layer them properly. I'm trying to make it so that they are layered looking but still can be placed flat. I'm sure the solution is relatively simple and I'm just having a late night mental block on how to get it done.

And if any of you guys or gals have any other roof modeling techniques I'd be thrilled to hear about them.

Thanks,
Nick.

Also I know the simplest of solutions is to use a texture, but i would like to see them modeled rather than textured.

Are you trying to place them right on top of each other? otherwise that'll make a slope. If you haven't tried placing them angled, try that, should work.
Er..like this. Dunno if I'm any help though >_>

Hey Nick4D,

If you are using 3ds Max, you could use "hinge from edge" to create the stagger of the shingle rows.
