View Full Version : Creature
I started making the head in zbrush then realised I need to create some proper concept art before carrying on so this is what i have so far, im going to keep drawing all this week:

:welcome: Tom!
So yes I think you definitely want to spend more time on the design and finding good references before switching to 3d.
You can have a look here, there are some quite nice insects references in this thread:
http://www.cgfeedback.com/cgfeedback/showthread.php?t=8
cheers
Pascal
cheers for the link :D
also here is some of the reference im using so far so you can see where my ideas have come from:

This looks like it is going to look very interesting. I'll be keeping an eye on this.
trying to make it more stable but i think i have lost the insect feel to the character im going to add a tail to this design and see how that feels then try some different legs

ok im starting to get somewhere now =]
Been working on the form and design a bit more but still thinking about how to do thoses legs :D

cool vids! I would avoid thin arms with small claws at the end, actually I think it would look nice with the pray mantis arms proportions.
Such great little creatures :)
Keep it up!

sorry i haven't posted in a while had some lectures this week.
Also I'm having problems drawing the character in perspective anyone have some good link to drawing tutorials?
and the lines that are coming off the claws is slime
Is this better:

http://dentys-fx.com/uni/zbrush/alien/claw2.jpg
after doing a little test to see how the claw works i dont think the 2nd image would work because it mean the claw would be broken!

a way for the character to attack

Hey Tom This has a great potential man, the Design is good and your method of approach is quite sweet :) So what do you in mind for this creature you want to fully animate it or what. BTW i had started my own Insect type creature Work in progress sometime back. i am going to start this thread on cgfeedback today do visit it might come in handy.
Regards
Yeah I think idea of rigging and animating the character sounds cool, it probably take me a while as i start back at Uni on Tuesday with lecture's we will be giving loads of projects.
Also I'm going to try add slime over the character; not to sure how to make shader for that yet =]
Also which program would be best to rig the character in?
3ds Max, Maya or Xsi
doesn't really matter which one i used because I will have to learn the tools in either one I'm new to the programs as i was mainly a c4d user before i went to Uni.

Tom i think you should give softimage a try. the whole app is quite straight forward to use and can easily manage dense meshes. and also there are many other features which are excellent. but coming from C4D background i think 3dsmax might look more familiar. If you dont want to give Softimage a shot then definitely go for maya which is equally wicked piece of 3D app.
Regards
cheers for the advice I will give XSI a go =]
Is this any better?

:) Tom :)
Hey this is pretty neat. hey how about you replace human arms with those leg limbs ...
But anyway this is all quite nice :)
Regards
been a while but i havent forgot about this project! :D
changed the design a lot im using the features of the beetle but with wasp proptions
cc welcome =]
Also concept a side view because i will be modeling a concept model in 3d from the side view which i will then paint over for the final perspective concept =]
