Hey Great to see you here as well.
Like the Pascal I really dig the fat fairy, lovely shapes, and quite unique ;)

I hope you don't mind a little critique as well, I overall like the latest female model as well, but there is just something really weird about her chest area, that line going all the way down just looks off to me.

Anyway, can't wait to see some more ;)

Oh and btw, what program did you sculpt these in? Zbrush?

idkfa
26-02-2011, 07:44 AM
Hello Frederik :) glad to see you here too, man! Yep I use zbrush with some simple basemeshes made in max. About the line, you are right, thank you for the critique, my goal is to develop some natural looking anatomy with these. Glad u like the fairy ;)
So here is a dude with a quick skin test. I have a scene for him which maybe I'll finish some day, no time for long projects lately. He is a Chief of local road police and speaks five languages.

Playing with some heads and polypaint :)
I'll continue with the first and add little details like veins and pores
to see how it will look with the cartoon proportions

Hello guys
Did some anatomy studies lately. I use to make anatomy sculpts that look like ecorches, so this is a more normal human look attempt :). Comments are welcome! :beerchug:

The pirate is great! But I think the pistol doesn't fit him well.

It should be more like this )

You are right Andrey, I've started working on the scene now and the gun will be replaced. Thank you.
Today I noticed smth strange when comparing models from mudbox and zbrush viewports. I've noticed many times that when importing models from zbrush in max, they don't look exactly the same, esp. the small detail. Probably this depends on the topology but it seems to me that the details in zbrush look much sharper than they really are. Anybody has thoughts on this?

sorry for the image size

http://img607.imageshack.us/img607/1850/compbg.jpg

Its the same model, shaded with standart blinn material in zbrush and default material in mudbox.

Storm

I think thats most likely because the normals are smoothed in mudbox. Maybe it will look more like each other if you turn that off.
Could be wrong though.

idkfa
20-05-2011, 10:59 PM
thanks Storm, yeah turning smoothing off kinda fixed the thing. So guess I have to keep all models in max this way in order to see what I've modeled in zbrush. Im struggling with a complex scene now and just wonder if this is ok and wouldn't lead to problems when rendering bump, normal maps or displacement on middle res non smoothed objects.

idkfa, great work! love the fairy! id love to see some wing mesh detail on her.

Can you give me a basic idea for your lighting/render setup?
how many lights and what type? just a blinn shader? and a final gather render? multiple passes?

im trying to setup a good render scene and I like your look alot.
:)

idkfa
26-05-2011, 08:53 AM
Brainmatter - thank you and glad you like the lighting! I use vray and very simple vray material. It has falloff map in the diffuse channel, which is set to shadow/light. The material has subtle reflections and receives pink color from the scene background. Lights are - white key spot and one fill vray light set to bluish color, no skylight. If you play with the falloff map colors and environment color you can get interesting results.
Btw material I'm using is a copy of a vray clay material (http://www.vray-materials.de/all_materials.php?mat=1735), there is an alternative material for mental ray, which you can easily set alike the vray one, you can check it here (http://mentalrayshaders.com/jeffs-blog/81-aad-clay-material-and-other-random-stuff.html). Hope this helps :beerchug:
