Hey everyone. Since I'm trying to break into the VFX industry:banghead:, I love comic books and Superheros, and a new Thor movie is in the works, I've decided to try my hand at the character. He is influenced from the V3 version and most of my inspiration comes from an amazing painting by David Finch (http://davefinchart.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2008-12-15T16%3A48%3A00-08%3A00&max-results=7).
Here is my progress so far. Let me know what you guys think (Your opinions mean a lot to me:beerchug:).

Hey Marcus, here are my crits on this one. I know you're still working on it (crashing shoulder pieces, lower body part) but the cheeks could be soften a bit, the face feels too symetrical, chin a bit wide and flat, the checker type armour thing could be smoother, now it looks too sharp and regular (was it based on the topology of the body?).
Also if this is to be made for an illustration , then you could re work the wrinkles on the torso once he is posed so they are working with the pose and tensions,etc... Anyways, keep it up :beerchug:

Hey Pascal,
Thanks for the crits. The armor was based from the Topology and I have smoothed it out before, but felt it looked irregular. I will smooth it again so you can see it and let me know what you think. I would like to rework the wrinkles when posed but I am trying to mimic a production environment as much as possible (with the little knowledge of the industry I have:o). However, I know studios have cloth TD's for that, right? When presenting a model to the supervisor, is it okay to pose it? Or do you just leave it in a T-Pose?
P.S. I left you a personal message.

Odin'son ,half god ! big character MJ ! nice character ,nice work , if i can make some critics ... ...for me , the key ,if tou want to create a big huge picture : it's details , details-details-details!!! ... that's the key , and aaaall our 3d world is made of details . Its a good start , the face is cool , impressive , Thor is a warrior , his arms and legs are very strong you could put some details there even if i know it's a wip ( that's why it's not easy to critic ...sorry...) , you have to create a pose , Thor is a god !!!
go on MJ !! kill'em all !

Thank you so much for the kind words Tom. They help motivate me. As far as the details in the arms and legs are concerned, I'm trying to model the character as true to the concept as possible (even if I don't agree with certain design decisions) because I'm trying to create a studio environment as close to production as I can. I do, however agree fully and after I finish the character, I'll probably play with the proportions and design to better suit my tastes:D.
P.S. I will try to give him a nice pose to create more interest. Afterall, he is a GOD!
Anyways, here is an update. C&C Very welcome

Hey everyone. After Two loooong days of trying to pose this guy:banghead:, I finally have an update. Zbrush crashed on me about 1 thousand times, but I was able to pose him with brute force. C&C very welcome.

the pose looks good so far. I think that there are too many cloth folds on the cape, i'd probably tone them down a bit, make less of them, but make the cap undulate more. also, the hands feel a bit stiff to me. i do like whats goin on with the posing and feel of the boots, I think you've captured the material properties quite well on them
The arms to similar maybe make one slightly smaller then the other ( on muscle)? or change the way the fingers are posed?

Hey Marcus, good to see some progress here.
Here are a few crits from me:
-I am not sure I like the pose, it looks very close to the neutral pose, and feels quite stiff especially around the arms and hands. I would have loved to see something more extreme like on the paintings reference you sent.
It would give you more direction/tension to justify your folds on the fabric.
-Like Peter said, there are too many wrinkles all over, especially on the cape.
- Armour looks better but I am not buying it on the legs. The ratio of each square should remain the same, but as you have less resolution on the legs, they start to stretch.
- Also I would add some facial expression to the face and try to make it look less like your Conan model ;)
I like the boots and shirt though, keep it up

Hey guys, Thanks for the comments
ZippZopp - Thanks for the crit, I've made adjustments to the cape. It now has less wrinkles and I think it undulates more. Let me know what you think.
Tom - Thanks for the comments. The fingers will be posed soon.
PascalR - Thanks for the crits friend. I've changed the pose to be more "dynamic" and I hope you like it better.
Here is an update let me know what you guys think.

Nice effort with the pose! I would still simplify the cape folds, and adjust the pose a little bit.
Here is a quick and dirty (sorry) paint over to explain what I would change.
Cheers!
