Ive been plodding away on the other half of my Bernini project - the clay version (figured Id start a new thread here). I did a pretty massive rework of the portrait after finishing the digital version because I was seeing things a lot differently & noticed several problems.
This is a current wip shot:

Kinda interested in some feedback - one of the things in the rework was to reduce the size of the head quite substantially. Im not really happy with the profile - specifically the back of the head/neck line. Ive done a draw over to indicate what I think is the solution - looking for opinions:

Danke.

Hi Scott,
I prefer your fix because we feel better the shape of the skull with it.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
And I guess it should have been "Deux" & not "Deaux"??

Really fantastic sculpt scott.
Very accurate to the reference.
I think its an improvement on the zbrush sculpt. Although traditional sculpting is always going to look better.

Thanks old-boy. It's unfortunately getting hard again to find time to work on it - if I get a half a day a week on it I feel like Im doing well :-)

Grandizer - wow, jealous. I have seen one of the bronzes in person, but only photos of the marble. There are 4 different version - the marble is the final (& best imho).
Thanks :)

Gorgeous sculpt Scott, love the detail in his robe.
What clay were you using?

Hi Morgan -
Thanks! The clay is Chavant p40 - a very firm industrial design type of clay.
Ive done a lot of work on this since the last pic - ill try to post some new photos this weekend.

I spent the weekend hammering away at these guys - trying to move them closer to finished. Here's a quick wip snapshot of the Bernini and the Houdon.

The Houdon is a bit in flux - I'm still making proportion adjustments to the portrait & the facial pose needs some softening.
