Here's a torso study - bpr render did some nice shadowing but it makes it kinda weird in some spots. :\

Hey Jesse nice to see you here man. Nice studies here. This last torso seems a little lumpy in places but looks really good so far.

Thanks Brett! I was hoping to get some crit. :)
Here's a less lumpy version and I didn't use BPR this time. Just straight screengrabs. I'm thinking I'd like to do a few different body types as well so I'm not just doing Mr. Muscleman.

Ye the crits have been pretty dry here lately:(
Looking much better. Just check the traps there seems to be a sharp pinch on it. The muscles over the scapula could also use some love. Its a bit flat there.

I think whats also causing havok is the armpits. If you sculpted them in properly you will be able to determine the start point of the lats under the arm and fan them out to the traps and the lower back. Once thats sorted also take another look at the shoulders. A guy this big would probably have more developed delts. Your clavicle seems to have a huge dip on the side view where it should climb up higher so that the scapula and humerus join onto it.

Yeah, taking this study into rough mode on the arms and neck seem to throw me off when I was sculpting this originally. I think what needs to be done here is that I do the entire body instead of just an isolated study. Or heck, I should at least add the head and arms....
Thanks for the insight dude.

Thanks so much Cristian. :D That means a lot coming from you. You have some really strong anatomy knowledge, something I'm trying hard to improve upon this year.

Jesse nice rendering...
shader nailed details in it....
any info about rendering setup?
sandpiper
11-11-2011, 06:59 AM
Thanks guys. :)
Gagan Jain: It's a vray setup with a decimated model. Typical 3 light setup with a dome light for extra fill. Nothing too crazy.
Here's something I've been working on the last couple of lunches for a bit of relaxation. What is it about me that's drawn to wrinkles and scales??? :D

My company, Chickwalker, has done some character work recently for the Zynga Castleville cinematics by Green Grass Studios. (It's a Facebook game for those who have no idea what I'm talking about! - heh)
These all were a group effort here (which always makes the best product!). My guys helped with doing some first pass modeling/sculpting and final texturing. This includes Steve Arguello, Rares Halmagean, Justin Wyatt, Brian Clark, and Nate Goreham. I was in charge of all art direction and mainly did refinement and polish for the sculpting as well as the texturing phases after getting the first character template off the ground. The true challenge was to match likeness to the concept art we were given. And yes, they're supposed to be a little cross-eyed. :)

Very cool sketchbook ! I really like how precise and crisp details you have on your creatures . Those last characters are really well done, the kid and the blond viking are my favourites.

Hey everyone,
This is one of my on-going creatures I'm working on. Specifically, this is for my creature creation class over at The Rydan Workshop (http://www.therydanworkshop.com). Mudbox/Max focus.
Yes, another lizard-type creature! heh heh - Still WIP of course...just starting to detail this guy out.

A concept study I created for CGNUGGETS tutorials. About 3-4 hours
total. Subconsciously inspired by creature designs from Avatar.
