Hello !
Little question !
I'm trying to use mari and I would like to paint with layers like photoshop.
In the doc I see that mari work's with channels, it's like layers.
So ok, it's good !
But for using theses channels, we must create a preset in the shader.
As I anderstand, we can create a preset by channel, but it's very inconfortable.
Somebody know if we can use the channels in a best way ?
And do you know if there are some tutorials on the web ?
I have already see the foudry videos.
thx for your help ;)

There's not much training out there for this sort of thing, unfortunately.
Something that has helped me is to think of this like a shader tree in a standard 3D application. A shader in Mari is like your Phong or your Blinn. If you want to see your channel with the shader, you have to tell your diffuse port in the shader to look at the color channel. If you want to add a new "layer," you do this by adding a new port to the shader (Diffuse Blend, for example). This creates a new port (module, as Mari calls it) in the shader so you can see it in the viewport. You then need to tell that module which channel to use as its input.
Be sure to use RGBA channels whenever possible so that you can use the Clear brush to erase portions. Makes layering much easier with the current build of Mari.
Supposedly, future releases of Mari will include enough Python support to allow the scripting of all these steps, but more importantly, should allow for a much better layering system.
Si j'ai le temps, j'essairai de faire un petit tuto la-dessus.

I have anderstand how that's work's, It is just not very easy to paint like photoshop with a lot of channels if we must create each times a preset in the shader.
I hope we will have a better layers system in the future.
At this time, it's preferable to paint in photoshop.
Je veux bien ton tuto tout de même, j'ai surement zappé quelques trucs !
thx ;)

I agree. In fact, a more intuitive layer system (Photoshop-like) is one of the most requested features, if not THE most requested one. According to the Foundry it is high on their to-do list.
