Here's a new piece I started just before I went on my break. Its a collaboration with Ben Neall, I 'll do the modeling and he'll texture. Its fun having some time again for some new stuff, hopefully there will be lots more to post :). Right now I feel the heads still somewhat generic but as I continue onto the body and we decide on a pose I can then add a little bit more personality. I've attach the concept that Ben did himself and as usual all crits are welcome and great job on starting this forum guys :)

Hey Caj, great to see your works here!
I must say I love both the model and artwork and I really can't wait to see what you and Ben will come up with.
Is there a story behind the design?
Inspiring work, as usual

great concept you've done, is she part of a bigger project? Does she have a background story?
I really enjoyed your gnomon dvd btw.

Pascal: She is sort of a character I've had around a while, a long time ago I had started drawing things from a world I imagined that was greatly inspired by Fallout (the original video game) and the Mad Max series of movies.

Unfortunately my line work is to clean to portray any of the textural qualities of those worlds. But the idea of this project is to do a very high quality asset, showcasing modeling and texturing, it will be a production oriented build since me and caj are hard wired to think that way, but I doubt it will ever be animated.

Hopefully we can finish it! And thanks for the warm welcome :)

Thanks everyone for the responses , I'm sure we will follow this one through ( right Ben :) ? )
PaulAdams - since its a female head and subtle forms are very important, I did most of it in maya and then took it into mudbox for the last 10% or so just to break up the planes and get in any slight adjustments. Its easy in any of the sculpting packages to get heavy handed on adding too much details and I didnt want that.

Looking great guys.

Caj I love the face, very subtle and cute. I can't wait to see the body.

Ben hows that hair going hahaha. I think you should keep the hairstyle from the sketch. The one you suggested wouldn't fit her. I'm looking forward to seeing your mad texture skills on this.

Just a question on Bens line drawing, which I think is immaculate btw, is it a pencil/pen drawing, a sketch worked up in a 2D package or combination, Im just curious, its extraordinarily neat and clean for a freehand drawing?

100% photoshop. I do messy sketch then "ink" it.. its very needlessly immaculate but I can't control it :(

Haven't been here in a while and this morning I realized that there's all these great posts and updates from so many people :)
Back on working on her now and I've sculpted the body in 3d Coat then did the retopology in Zbrush. I'm currently working on the costume and there are alot of tmp geo in the images, the final will be more to what Ben did in his sketch ( I'm just trying to justify what the underlying elements are as to get a better feel ). Body isnt final, upper arms feel a bit flat but i guess once the clothing is finished , she can then be posed and all the exposed areas will be worked on.... There's still alot of modeling to do and alot of figuring out as far getting the feel of materials etc. I wont take so long to update since I'm back on her now :)

Thnx everyone for the replies :)

P.S... Hey Rudy hows the world man :) ?

Hey Caj, I am glad you finally managed to upload these beautiful screenshots ;)
Man that is some wicked modeling here, I love it!
One thing though, the hands looks a little bit small, I don't know if it is a perspective thing or just me, but the fingers look quite thin even though she is wearing gloves.

Awesome work! clap

Not too bad ;)

So you prefer 3dcoat for polygon sculpting, or did you just want to try it this time?
I like the freedom you have with voxels but for poly sculpting I would prefer zbrush or mudbox.
On the other other side, I find the topology tools in 3dcoat much better than in zbrush.

Great work so far

Yeah, really great work caj... she already has a personality/dignity, I thought.
It's usually kind of hard to have them, but you did!
look forward to seeing the finished image, also texturing works!
Thanks for sharing!

Hey guys, here's some wires to go along with the previous post.

Pascal, Pete thnx :) and the fingers are a bit then ( in the gloves) and the hand seems a tad bit small , heres a pic of the hands with the outer layer removed......tell me what u think

Ken... Thank you and we'll see how much we can play with once she's posed
Chris... Thnx man :)
drummermenco .. thnx, will def keep the posting

Manuel Poehlau.... I use Mudbox, zbrush and now 3dcoat, however i'd still use mudbox or zbrush over 3dcoat for poly sculpting ( but that could just be for now :) ). Voxels are such a powerful aspect of 3dcoat and the freedom alone is worth checking out, but with that said I know the tools in 3d coat for poly sculpting are still being developed so it wasnt an easy task. There were artifacts most of the time while using the move tool, undo broke alot :) but i can def see it as a software to keep an eye on ( I'm still using it ) .
As far as he topology tool in zbrush, I choose it besides the multiple other better options only because I wanted to use the project feature ( never gave it a shot before) The feature is very good but the toolset was def lacking..

Thanks for the info. Yes, the development of 3dcoat is really good and fast.
Really looking forward to the next releases.

And these are some lovely wires, very even and clean. I think the size of the hands is fine. No critique from my side

Hey Cajun, this model is looking incredible. But that's not surprising, I'm a big fan of your work! Love the organic subtleties you've put into the modelling! Feels very fleshy and real.
Oh, and btw you can use zbrush projection without having to build the mesh with those painful tools :)

A few hair tests.. ditched the ponytail for something more like the concept (and I dont feel like dealing with hair roots)... will need allot of work as I am clueless when it comes to doing CG hair.

BrettSinclair

Awesome work Ben. Pascal has a point. Perhaps its the clump that looks too much? I really like the concept version. But I also like the ponytail. It could look awesome if you had the bangs with the pony tail. So you have these loose pieces covering the hairline round down too the ears (like you have it) and then a pony tail in the back. Though this is hair we talking about. Still a mega pain in the ***:banghead:.
Perhaps leave the hair for a bit and do some amazing texture work on her.

You should stick with your old hair and try and get it right, dont quit when your already ahead :)
